We offer a great variety of opportunities for children on Sundays, Wednesdays and occasionally at other times.
Here are a few on-going examples of our ever expanding children's ministry
Sunday School: On Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. we offer sunday school for all ages. Children begin by participating in the first fifteen minutes of worship. This is followed by music, and age specific sunday school lessons. We use a curriculum that is called SPARK, and focuses on bible stories. Each week, children learn about characters in the Bible and apply the stories to their lives. We tend to focus on Old Testament stories in the fall and winter and New Testament stories in the spring. It is our hope that children are challenged to explore their faith in new ways, both on Sunday mornings and at home. Click here to find out more about Sunday School.
Stepping Stones: Recent studies in children's and youth ministry show that the most important element in a child's faith journey happens in the child's home. Because most parents are not seminary trained theologians, talking about and actually practicing faith in the home can be intimidating for some. Each year we provide specific opportunities for parents and children to be equipped to practice their faith outside the doors of the church. When it is your child's day for stepping stones, they receive a gift that will help them think about their faith in a new way. Following a blessing, children and parents participate in a series of activities that helps give them tangible ways to make their faith come alive at home. Vacation Bible School: Every summer we offer a full week of Vacation Bible School. This usually takes place in June, and is a collaboration with Holy Rosary Parrish. Last year our theme was Pandamania, and we saw around 130 children. VBS is for children who are aged 4 to 12 and is a very fun time for all. Information about VBS 2012 will become available in March 2012.
Fellowship Events: Each year we offer quarterly events for elementary school students that allow them to participate in fun, social events that are focused on building relationships and learning about faith. In 2010 we held a fall festival that taught children that God is with us even when we are afraid, we held a Christmas event that encouraged children to think about the true meaning of christmas. We held a spring time event that taught us that God is always with us, and we held several events in the summer. Click here to find out about upcoming fellowship events for children.
