Hope Lutheran Church is blessed to have four octaves of handbells and three octaves of handchimes. This choir, under the direction of Director of Music, David Johnson, meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:15PM in the Sanctuary from September through end of May. This choir plays once a month during our Sunday morning services and is involved in special seasonal services and celebrations.
A special highlight is attending the Big Sky Handbell Festival which happens the last week of April of every year. We travel to different parts of the pacific northewest and play with 300 other handbell players.
BIG SKY HANDBELL FESTIVAL
Hope Lutheran’s handbell choir will be among more than 275 handbell ringers from across Montana and northern Idaho attending the 29th annual Big Sky Handbell Festival, April 23-24, in Livingston. It will be held in the Park High School gym, located at the south end of Livingston’s Main Street. The public is invited to a free
concert (donations accepted) on Saturday night, April 24, at 7:30 pm. Participating choirs have been practicing twelve compositions ranging from an Irish ballad to rag time and the Montana state song for the “massed ringing” by all 275 participants. It may be several years before Big Sky Festival comes back to our area and there is another opportunity to attend this spectacular event.
We are always looking for new members. You do not have to know how to read music but it is very helpful. Please contact Ann Blake at the church or email
